  • Lakshman Jhula: A suspension bridge across the river Ganga, the bridge is said to have been built of jute ropes by Lakshman. The bridge offers a spectacular view of the holy river that flows beneath it as well as the striking mountains which it has in its backdrop. Your kids would particularly love to feed the fished and watch them gather on the spot to grab the food.

  • Triveni Ghat: This is the main bathing ghat in Rishikesh and is thronged by thousands of devotees everyday. The place is especially packed in the evenings when people flock to see the massive Ganga Aarti ceremony when thousands of earthen lamps are set afloat in the river atop leaf boats. Reach here well before the ceremony begins so that you can secure a vantage point.

  • Nilkanth Mahadeo Temple: Located at a height of over 5000 feet, the temple commands an amazing view of the town. According to a legend, this is the place where Lord Shiva drank the poison which had come out after the seas were churned. It is because of this poison that Shiva has a blue neck and is called ‘Neelkanth’. The temple is extremely crowded on the Shivratri and Maha Shivratri Festivals.

  • Bharat Temple: The oldest temple in Rishikesh, it belongs to the 12th century. The temple has an idol of Lord Vishnu which is believed to be carved out of a single divine stone of Mahavishnu.

  • White Water Rafting: Rishikesh is probably the best place in India to enjoy a thrilling session of white water rafting, since the Ganges flows here at an amazing speed. A number of rafting companies operate in Rishikesh and you can take up their services. They even provide all necessary equipments and professional guides.

 
Gourmet Treats
Rishikesh is a pure vegetarian town and there is surely no dearth of eating options here. The Ramana’s Garden, Elachi Restaurant and Chotiwala Restaurant are some of the oldest and most popular restaurants in Rishikesh. The Jhula Italian Restaurant serves mouthwatering Italian fare and is a hit with tourists. Delicious Continental fares can be tried out at the Midway Bar and Restaurant. Shopping will be a different experience in Rishikesh as the town has some unique items to offer. Exquisite murals and frescoes which were once done on the walls of havelis and palaces are now recreated by ace artists on paper and cloth. These pieces of art are taken mostly by tourists as showpieces and souvenirs. Intricately carved wooden furniture is another specialty of Rishikesh. Furnitures with antique look make the best buys for tourists. Hand-woven and tie-and-dye fabrics are also popular with women who visit the place.
