	Things to See
	Tea Gardens: These are Ooty's most distinctive feature and cover miles and miles of teh topography. Get an appointment at a tea estate to watch the entire process of tea brewing. Botanical Gardens: Characterised by well-laid out gardens complete with shaded trees and a wide range of flowers. The prime attraction here is the fossilised tree trunk, which is said to be close to 20 million years old! The garden also plays host to the Summer Festival every May, with a striking Flower Show being the attraction. Ooty Lake: An artifical lake, this is popular with families who enjoy sessions of boating. The Lake also has an interesting Lake Garden, a jetty, snack bars, pony rides and toy train rides. Churches: Among the several churches, two of the most prominent ones are the Union Church and Holy Trinity Church. Both the churches feature beautiful stained glass windows, minutely carved pews and quiet cemeteries. The oldest church in the Nilgiris is St Stephen’s Church, which is distinctive with its huge wooden beams. The Kandal Church exhibits a relic of the True Cross on which Christ was crucified. Charing Cross: This famous road junction in ooty is flanked by shops on either sides. The famous Spencers departmental store, which sells Planter's Special cigars, made of Indian tobacco is a highlight here. Ootacmund Club: This exclusive British Club holds the famous Ooty Hunt, which is a pursuit of jackals by hounds. Ketti Valley: Said to be the 2nd longest in the world, it offers enchanting views for miles, especially of the fog on the hills on a winter morning. Adventure: Ooty holds a large range of adventures to indulge in. Climb the highest peak at the Dodda Betta Mountain and watch the beautiful Nilgiris. Annual hang-gliding courses are also organised by the Tourism Department from March to May. Picnic Spots: One of the most popular picnic spots in Ooty is Wenlock Downs, which is defined by rolling hills. Other busy picnic spots are the Ninth Mile and Sandy Nallah, which is also known as a spot for several film shoots.


	Gourmet Treats
	This popular hill station has a large number of restaurants. Among the several Chinese restaurants, Shinkows opposite the Nilgiri Library, is one of the busiest. Try some authentic South India dosas, vadas and sambar at Kurinji on Commercial Road. Don't miss out on the Nilgiri special varki, which is available in plenty at West Coast Bakery.


	Shopping Fiesta
	The best thing to pick up in Ooty is tea. Several varieties of neatly packaged teas, yummy home made chocolates, fragrant oils and spices. The King Star Confectionery provides the most heavenly varieties of chocolates you can ever lay hand on! The TN State Handicrafts Centre is best for those looking for unique handicrafts. Ooty’s most distinctive product is the crafts created by the Toda tribals. Get yourself the red, black and white Toda shawls and silver jewellery from stores at Charing Cross.
