Chill-out with some home-made chocolates which the cottage-stores offer. Be here and experience the charm.

Things to See
  • Lakes: The most popular feature of this beautiful hill station is the star-shaped Kodai Lake, which is situated amidst lush green wooded slopes. This lake is surrounded by a black paved road. Another popular picnic spot is the Berijam Lake, which provides beautiful scenes around.

  • Coaker's Walk: Situated a kilometer away from the lake, it gets its name from Lt. Coaker, the man credited with charting the map of Kodai. Built along a steep, green slope, this walk offers you splendid views of the valley below.

  • Parks: The Bryant Park is located on the eastern side of the lake and is noted for its flowers, hybrids and grafts. A particular feature here is the Flower Show, which is hosted every year in May as part of a summer festival. Another beautifully maintained park is the Chettiyar Park, located en route the Kurinji Andavar Temple.

  • Green Valley View: Situated close to the Golf Club, it provides a beautiful view of the Vaigai Dam.

  • Pillar Rocks: Situated about 7 kms from the Lake, the name comes from three boulders that stand next to each other. It also has a mini garden within it.

  • Kurinji Andavar Temple: This is one of the most prominent temples and is dedicated to Lord Muruga, Lord of the Hill. This temple also provides striking views of Palani and Vaigai Dam.

  • Solar Physical Observatory: Located in the highest point of Kodai, you require prior appointments to observe the planetary movements.

  • Shenbaganur Museum: This museum exhibits archeological remains and flora/fauna of the hills. The highlight of this museum are the 300 species of orchids.

  • Falls: Credited with being one of the highest waterfalls in India, Thalaiyar Falls has a 975 feet drop. A popular picnic spot is the Bear Shola Falls, whose name comes from a belief that bears once drank water here. The Pambar Falls or Grand Cascade Falls are a series of zig-zag streams that flow over rocks and precipices. All the falls are best visited in the rains.

  • Palani: Situated a little away from Kodaikanal, this is a popular pilgrim center and is said to be one of the six abodes of Lord Dhandayuthabani. Direct buses are available between Palani and Kodaikanal.

  • Dolphin’s Nose: This is one of the best areas to start exploring the forest. Wear your comfortable walking shoes. Several small shops are located en route that offer snacks, tea and coffee. As you stand on the edge of the rocks, you can catch breathtaking views of the landscape around. The mountains are covered with clouds almost at all times, making it an enthralling experience.

  • Churches: Located close to the Kodai School, the Lutheran Churchis a strikingly gothic-style stone building with stained glass windows and modern paintings representing the life of Christ. Equally famous in this region is the Christ the King Church, which is also a gothic and granite structure with stained glass windows.
