Pardesi Synagogue: The word “pardesi” means foreigner, and this synagogue got this name as it was used by white Jews. Built in 1568, this synagogue is the oldest active synagogue in India. Located next to the Mattancherry Palace, the Pardesi Synagogue is also known as the Mattancherry Synagogue or the Jew Temple. Mattancherry Palace: Also known as the Dutch Palace, Mattancherry Palace is reminiscent of the erstwhile Portuguese style of architecture. Constructed in the year 1557, this palace was presented to the then king of Kerala, Veera Kerala Varma. After renovations by the later kings of Kerala, the Mattancherry Palace has taken on a distinctive Indian architectural style.
Fort Kochi: If you are fascinated by the history of Cochin, then one place you must definitely visit is Fort Kochi. This small town was given to the king of Kochi as a mark of gratitude by the Portuguese in the year 1503 and bears a Portuguese, British and Dutch resemblance where architecture is concerned. Some important places you must visit in Fort Kochi are Thakur House, David Hall, Fort Emmanuel, St. Francis Church, etc.
Jew Town: Jew Town was an area granted to the Jews when they took refuge in 1524. You must visit this part of the city just for the old-world charm of it, and of course, a number of souvenirs that you can take back home. Check out the antique and curio shops selling jewellery, wooden furniture, lamps, vintage photographs and tons of other vintage paraphernalia.
Marine Drive: Just like Mumbai, Kochi too has a charming promenade. Marine Drive is visited by tons of people everyday, which stretches from Jankar Jetty to Ernakulam Boat Jetty. There are also quite a few tourist attractions here that you can check out, like China Net Bridge, Rainbow Bridge, etc.
Cherai beach: One of the loveliest beaches in India, Cherai beach is located near Vypeen Island. Fondly referred to as the "Princess of the Arabian Sea", Cherai beach is a lone stretch of clean and shallow water that is ideal for swimming and photo-ops. Plus, the backdrop of lovely backwaters and Chinese fishing nets make the whole area absolutely picturesque.
Willingdon Island: This island connects Kochi with seaports around the world. Named after Lord Willingdon, Willingdon Island was developed in the year 1936. This is quite a major trade centre for Cochin and it is also home to the Port of Cochin and the customs offices.
