A major town in the state of West Bengal, Siliguri is apparently the Gateway to the North East of India. Famed as the Siliguri Corridor is a thin strip of land that connects the Indian mainland to the north-eastern part of the country. The strategic location that the town commands has made Siliguri an important commercial center too. Known for its tea plantations, Siliguri has tea plantations of many big tea brands. Siliguri is also a base for the Indian Defence forces. Shoppers can find Siliguri interesting as it has a cheap Chinese goods market, selling dirt cheap Chinese goods.
